the road to charleston, sc

Here are some photos that were supposed to be posted months ago. I flew in to Memphis, TN then drove down south to New Orleans, drove northeast to Atlanta, south again to Savannah, and finally  Charleston, SC. I loved the trip. I had good times with my dad and my sister. It's a road trip that I might never do again in my life (just the route not the trip). I loved the food that we ate in each city.
When my dad and sister got to Memphis, we had Rendezvous' dry-rubbed barbecue ribs. It was different from what I grew up with but it's good. There were several other barbeque places I wanted to try but my tummy is not large enough to accommodate them all. We also went to see Elvis' house. I really liked his quirky rooms in the basement. The hawaiian room is my favorite (photos to follow).
Next stop was New Orleans. As soon as we got in the city, we picked up lunch at a crawfish/seafood spot I found at yelp. We took it to go and went straight to Cafe du Monde. I was in complete awe when I got to french quarters. I immediately recognized the Central Grocery store and didn't waste time getting my muffaletta fix. I had to get it right away because they are closed the following day (Sunday). After, I went for my beignet fix. It was a hot, fluffy, doughy little pillow of heaven. LOVE Cafe du Monde. After a short nap, I got some muffaletta at Cochon Butcher. The place was hip and modern and their menu was  modern take on New Orlean's cuisine. Then, we walked around the french quarter and had Cafe du Monde beignets again (I can't get enough of it). Dinner was a bit of disappointment and just had it at some random restaurant with no lines (was supposed to eat at Acme Oyster house but the line was two blocks long).
Sunday was the trip to Atlanta. We had the muffalettas for breakfast and for me the winner was the Central Grocery muffaletta. It was salty for my dad and sister's taste but it was perfect for me.  It was hot and humid in Atlanta (just like Memphis and New Orleans). We checked in our hotel and headed to Flipburger by Richard Blaise. What I really liked most is their nutella-toasted marshmallow shake. I couldn't care less about the burger but this shake is to-die-for. I love it. I would fly to Atlanta for it. Afterwards, we went to the Coca-Cola Museum and had a fun time trying different kinds of Coca-Cola products.
More stories later when my sister gets to sending me the pictures. Next is Savannah and Charleston.

Halo halo

Daikokuya

This year I want to check off as many restaurants as I could that are on my list. First on the list was daikokuya. Their ramen was very flavorful. Broth was creamy. Noodles were "al dente". I didn't really care about the bean sprouts and green onions. I also loved their sausages. Sooooo good. It has that snap when you bite it. Yum. Pork katsu and shredded pork rice bowl is ok. Salad was crisp and oniony.
