2/24/11 food truck crawl

It's been a while since I've been in a food truck crawl. I miss it. I love food trucks. And I've been craving for macarons (I almost drove to vegas for one. Hopefully my sister will bring me back some next month. Is there any dark chocolate macarons???). Also, I've been obsessing about trying another Filipino food truck since the Tapa Boy truck didn't fill my cravings.

I went to two trucks only ('coz I've been eating out a lot lately and I feel guilty), the white rabbit truck (filipino fusion) and the ludo truck. Mmmm...yummy sisig and garlic rice. I like the crispiness of the pork and the rice wasn't cold and greasy (please take note tapa boy crew). Love it even more with cholula hot sauce. I'll definitely go back for more (and also try the ube macarons). I also had ludo truck's chicken which we're ok. The bearnaise sauce was too lemony and the honey wings had too much honey for my taste (I'm traumatized with honey because my parents used to force us to drink a teaspoon of it with raw garlic when we had cough. UGH. I gag thinking about it. It was effective though). For dessert, I had the MILO macaron (Milo is a popular chocolate powder brand in the Philippines. I used to drink it when I was a kid). It was ok. The cookie was a bit crumbly and my sibs say that it taste like nutella. I like.

roscoe's chicken and waffles

Sorry for the orange hued photos. Light was bad at roscoe's and I'm just using a first gen iphone with the hipstamatic app. I love Roscoe's Waffles I can eat it everyday (bad, bad, bad!!!). Their chicken is crispy and juicy too...Ayayay...Need to go on the treadmill soon. :(

miso soup and salad with sesame dressing

I love miso soup and salad with sesame dressing (i forgot the restaurant's name. It's in the shopping area where fresh n easy is on south and woodruff).

rockin' baja coastal cantina

Last night I went to use my first groupon I bought. I got a $30 deal for only $15 at rockin' baja coastal cantina in huntington beach (it's by pinkberry in bella terra). It's like a mexican-american/seafood restaurant and bar. Food was yummy. No one could ever go wrong with lobster. I also liked their pineapple-mango salsa (which I forgot to take a picture of).
jelic's photo of half lobster and steak combo... yummmy steak and lobster.

my photo of steak (lobster is missing). I was too hungry to take a good photo of it. (haha)

seafood pasta (a bit salty because of the seafood but it was good)

lilikoi

I miss hawaii so bad so to reminisce it I asked my mom to buy some lilikoi drink for me. Lilikoi is passioinfruit. It reminds me of hawaii. I drank this A LOT when I went there last year. I wanna visit the other islands that I didn't go to last year. Kauai and big island we shall see each other one day.

brussel sprouts

I roasted some brussel sprouts last weekend when I was super sick. I like brussel sprouts. It's healthy, there's a slight bitter taste at the end when you eat and it looks like a mini cabbage.

valentine's day

This is what I found when I came back from lunch last valentine's day: Heart shaped reeses (and I ate it right away...Haha...)
heart shaped reeses (with the garnishment table as a background)

jollibee

Everytime I go to this fastfood restaurant, I order almost everything on the menu. Jollibee. A Filipino's comfort food. A taste of home. Although there's a slight difference in taste (like the bread for the yumburger smells weird) it still reminds me of home. Their peach mango pie taste the same as the one in the Philippines. I love Jollibee. :)

Filipino Spaghetti and chicken (my fave. I never get tired of filipino spaghetti)

crispy bangus, garlic rice, and egg

beef tapa, rice, and egg

yumburger and two peach mango pies (for me...haha...)

Their chocolate brownie dessert with whip cream and preserved strawberry (it was alright...a bit sweet for me)

Cerritos' Saturday Farmer's Market

I haven't been to a farmer's market for months so when my pregnant friend wanted to go I volunteered to go with her. I love any farmer's market. It reminds me of home, (Lingayen, Pangasinan) where most of the produce are fresh. Fish, meat, and poultry products are not frozen. Fruits and veggies that are available are only the ones in season. Rice cakes, Filipino tamales, and other goodies sold in the market are usually home made and you know the vendor's name because you always see her every week. When I was a kid, I used to tag along with my mom to the market. The street where I lived was only a block away from the market ("palengke" in Tagalog. Our house was behind the provincial jail. Our street was also behind the old provincial court and town hall. The town's plaza and church was close to it too). Whenever I get lost (it's always busy on Saturday and the market is always crowded), I always go back to the lady who sell fish and seafood to my mom and my mom finds me there. Love the market and I miss it.
Brussel sprouts $2.00 per pound (I bought some and I'm going to roast it)

The market (not too many stalls, maybe less than 30)

Roasted (GMO???) corn with a little bit of mayonaise, lime, chili powder, and lemon pepper...Yummy (even though I know it's GMO). $3.00/corn. I also tasted the beef and chicken tamale ($3.00/tamale) and both are yummy.

It's here. When I came home last Saturday, this is what I saw on our breakfast bar. Thank you to my Uncle for bringing these home. :)

zankou chicken

Zankou chicken and garlic sauce = LOVE. I love this lebanese chicken and their garlic sauce is to die for (i ate 1 tub and hoarded 3 extra garlic sauce from my friends since they didn't like it). Their rotisserie chicken is moist. Their garlic sauce is garlicky and tart and tangy and creamy (it was featured in Best Thing I Ever Ate). I ordered half chicken plate and their tri-tip shawarma (which was good too but I think the pita should be a lot warmer). I didn't eat it all and save some for my sister.

Pasalubong

It's a cold Saturday morning (my hands are freezing for taking photos and typing). Winter is back in SoCal (not midwest winter but it's still cold) and I'm not really fond of it (love summer). Anyways, my sister and my friends (gail, sonny, and zy) went home (Philippines) after Christmas and they just arrived from their vacation. I got a lot of goodies from the Philippines (yummm...if only they could bring me lechon...). Thank you so much sister and Gail for getting me all things that I love. Now I have to work out harder to lose weight.

My I love Pangasinan shirt (thanks Monika!), umbrella, sarong, banig, and processed cheese

Canned goods (corned beef and liver spread)

JE's bagoong (thanks Julie Ann for giving me a box of it), goldilock's choco polvoron, and tomi sweet corn chips

Chocolate tabletas wrapped in white paper and assorted philippine candies

JE's ginisang alamang and mango (supperrr yummmmy)

The reason why I don't eat other bagoong or alamang from other places (see above)...It's not the same when it's not from my town (LINGAYEN, PANGASINAN). Other popular brands here in the US taste like SALT (argggghhhh!!!!). Please don't claim that it's from LINGAYEN coz it's not.

Mulach's ensaymada (thanks Alex and Christine...they both gave me one box each. Both were gone within 2 days!!!)
Choco polvoron = love
Boneless bangus = my comfort food (with coffee as my sabaw/soup...haha)

Assorted dried fish (daing, danggit, spada, skeleton, mini fish)

Dried fish
Connie's kitchen gourmet daing and sardines (my uncle who is still in the Philippines has my gourmet tuyo and tinapa...hope he doesn't forget to bring it). I like this brand but for my gourmet tuyo I WANT the FROM ME TUYO brand and I can't find it. Please leave a comment if you know where I can get it(I know it's in Pampanga but where???).
Taba ng talangka / Crab Fats (?) = LOVE (high cholesterol, 911 love)

Lady's choice ham, tuna, and chicken spread
Tupig (from the road food vendors)
